MineCraft on TrueNAS

Hey all, in today’s video, I am going to cover setting up ANY version of Minecraft on TrueNAS (Vanilla, Spigot, Bucket, Paper, Folia, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, CurseForge, Modrinth, Feed the Beast, Pufferfish, etc.)

Installing Minecraft

  1. Login to your TrueNAS machine. If new, watch our setup video here
  2. Click the Apps page on the left.

  1. Click Discover Apps (top right, blue button).

  1. Search for "Minecraft".

  1. Select Minecraft Server Java or Bedrock.
  • Bedrock is cross-platform, Java is PC-only but retains original experience.
  1. Click Install.

Application Settings

  1. Name your Minecraft server.
  2. Select timezone.
  3. Agree to EULA (check box).
  4. Choose image (Java version fits modpack).
  5. Select server type.
  6. Choose game mode.
  7. Name your server.

  1. Add an RCON password.

  1. Scroll down to Network Configuration.
  2. Select Host IP under the respective section.

  1. Scroll down to Resource Configuration.
  2. Set CPU cores and RAM amount.
  3. Select Install.

Launch Minecraft

  1. Launch Minecraft on your PC.
  2. Go to Multiplayer.
  3. Select Direct Connection.
  4. Enter your TrueNAS IP and port 25535 (default for Java Vanilla).

Your Minecraft server is now ready!

Editing Minecraft Server Files

  1. In Apps page open CLI for Minecraft app.

  1. List files:
ls
List files
  1. Edit server.properties with nano:
nano server.properties

Here you can change ports, game settings, etc.
